Hardscaping Project Feature: The Gathering Terrace

Built with Pennsylvania bluestone, Andover veneer stone, and WAC lighting, The Gathering Terrace is a testament to how thoughtful design and enduring materials can bring people together.

Every great outdoor space tells a story—this one begins with connection.

Created by Kevin Ramer of IMMACULATE Landscape Specialists, The Gathering Terrace was envisioned as more than a backyard transformation. It’s a place for fellowship. A setting for friends, neighbors, and guests to gather in support of shared causes and good company.

Surrounded by rolling meadow views, the terrace feels both expansive and intimate. Its layered stone walls, sculptural fire bowls, and a striking pergola frame the space. At the center, a Campania fountain serves as the anchor, creating balance and inviting conversation.

What makes this project stand out isn’t only its design, but its purpose. Every line, material, and lighting element was chosen to create an atmosphere that welcomes gathering, giving, and gratitude. It’s a perfect reflection of how great design can serve both beauty and belonging.

From Concept to Craft

When the project homeowners first envisioned their outdoor space, they wanted a design that felt timeless—an outdoor environment that could host intimate gatherings, philanthropic events, and (fingers-crossed) a wedding or two.

With the help of landscape architect Howard Supnik, Kevin developed a design plan that created a sense of order within the surrounding meadow.

“The goal was to make it feel like a natural extension of the home,” Kevin explained. “Penn Stone’s materials were able to achieve the look we wanted, complementing the architecture without overwhelming the landscape.”

Selecting the Right Stone

That’s where Penn Stone entered the picture. Kevin visited our Lancaster hardscaping showroom to explore materials and products that would complement the home’s design and bring long-term durability to the project.

He and the homeowners decided on Andover veneer stone for its depth of color and texture, and full-color thermal bluestone for its elegant, smooth finish. The result is a rich mix of warm and cool tones that creates contrast while maintaining a cohesive feel.

“The bluestone gave the patio its timeless look,” Kevin shared. “We wanted it to feel like it had always belonged there.”

Lighting and Finishing Touches

Lighting was another key layer of the design. Installed within the pergola beams, wall caps, and end columns, Kevin used WAC lighting to give the space depth and warmth. However, what comes with any large-scale project is a lot of area to cover with lighting, so Kevin reached out to Penn Stone for support.

“Penn Stone brought out WAC’s brand representative who helped us engineer the lighting system, ensuring there would be adequate power to the space,” Kevin explained.

Meanwhile, Design Advisor Amy Bitar met with the homeowners to select the Campania fountain, fire table, and fire bowls that serve as focal points across the terrace.

To complete the composition, local artist Matthew Leavell created four custom flower sculptures that added a layer of artistry to the design. Each piece introduces color, texture, and movement to the space. Together with the stone and lighting, they turn the terrace into a stunning outdoor gallery.

A Space Built for Connection

The Gathering Terrace is now a space built for connection. Here, friends come together around the fire, conversations unfold under the pergola’s soft light, and the sound of the fountain sets the rhythm for shared moments.

For Penn Stone, this project represents what we value most: craftsmanship, collaboration, and community. From guiding material selection to supporting the lighting installation, our team worked hand-in-hand with IMMACULATE Landscape Specialists to ensure every hardscaping element felt intentional and enduring.

Because when great design meets genuine purpose, something remarkable happens—a space becomes more than just beautiful. It becomes a place where people gather together.
