DESCRIPTION:Join Penn Stone and LancasterHistory.org on Thursday\, August 2 for a presentation on the History of Brickmaking in Lancaster County\, presented by Wes Swanson. \nThe presentation will cover the Colonial Period to the Armstrong Era\, and will include: \n\nan overview of the kinds of bricks produced and the craftsmen who made them\ninsights into early brick-making techniques\nlocal historical context regarding brickmaking and brickmakers\n\nHands-on materials will be available\, and the presentation will be followed by a Q&A session. \nJoin us for light refreshments at 5:30pm\, followed by Wes’ presentation at 6pm. \nAbout Wes Swanson: Wes has been working in the masonry trade since he was 16\, first as a tender and then as a mason for Steve Groff Masonry. He left the trade to earn a degree in social studies education from Millersville Univeristy and then earned a graduate degree in American Studies from Penn State. He is entering his 13th year as a full-time American history teacher in the Hempfield School District. He continues to work in the summer as the owner of Wes Swanson Masonry. Alfa is introducing their ovens to America in 2018\, and we are excited to welcome the founder of Alfa Ovens\, Rocco Lauro\, to our event. 40 years ago\, Rocco and his partner Marcello Ortuso\, founded Alfa Pizza\, and still lead the family-owned company today. \n\nGesino Sgro will host our event. Gesino was born in Calabria\, Italy and is the owner of Gesino’s Italian Specialties\, a Downtown Lancaster business importing the finest pasta\, sauces\, oils and more. Gesino will provide pizza ingredients as well as a tasting of delicious Italian wines from the Montalcino\, Sicily\, and Veneto regions. \n\nMike Rowen from Michael’s Motor Cars will also join us for the evening. Michael’s Motor Cars is another neighborhood business specializing in personalized car buying\, and they will showcase vintage Italian automobiles from Fiat and Alfa Romeo. \n  \n\nOur event is from 5pm to 8pm.
